The National Latino Alliance for the Elimination of Domestic Violence (Alianza) cordially invites you to attend our fifth National Conference: Yo Soy el Poder del Cambio: Family Violence Prevention and Beyond on November 18 and 19, 2005 at the Marriott Rivercenter Hotel in beautiful San Antonio, Texas.
The conference will bring together some 200 survivors, advocates, researchers, healers, and artists of all ages and from many regions and countries of origin. Together we will examine how the prevention of family and relationship violence relates to the prevention of violence in a broader context, as well as to other social justice movements. We believe our work in the future will require a new consciousness and new approaches in order to create a world where every person has an opportunity to live free from fear and with dignity.
Expected Outcomes
-
A clearer understanding of what family violence prevention means; a better understanding of some of the underlying causes of domestic violence; and a better vision of what constitutes healthy relationships/families

Identification of barriers that keep us from eliminating violence at the individual, community and service levels and ways of eliminating them

An understanding of some of the successful prevention strategies and approaches used by Latino communities and organizations
-
Identification of promising prevention strategies and approaches that are culturally responsive

Lodging
The San Antonio Marriott-Rivercenter, 101 Bowie Street has offered rates at $135 per room per night, for single, double, triple or quad occupancy.To make reservations call Marriott reservations at 1-800-648-4462 by Friday, October 21, 2005. After this date, the hotel will release the unreserved rooms for general sale. Please inform them you are part of the “Alianza” group.
You will be responsible for your room, taxes and incidentals. At check-in you will be required to furnish a credit card or a cash deposit to use the room telephone and place charges to your room.
Meals
Your registration fee will cover breakfast and lunch on November 18th and 19th. You will be responsible for your dinner.
