Alianza's Mission and Purpose

National Latino Alliance for the Elimination of Domestic Violence (Alianza), is part of a national effort to address the domestic violence needs and concerns of under-served populations. Alianza specifically addresses the needs of Latino/a families and communities. It represents a growing network of Latina and Latino advocates, practitioners, researchers, community activists, and survivors of domestic violence. Alianza’s mission is: to promote understanding, initiate and sustain dialogue, and generate solutions that move toward the elimination of domestic violence affecting Latino communities, with an understanding of the sacredness of all relations and communities.

The Meaning Behind Our Logo

All colors have symbolism and meaning.

Red is associated with energy, war, danger, strength, power,determination as well as passion, desire, and love. It also represents vigor, willpower, leadership and courage. In heraldry, red is used to indicate courage, which is why it is found in many national flags.

Black is associated with power, elegance, and formality. It denotes strength and authority and is considered to be very formal, elegant, and prestigious. In heraldry, black is the symbol of grief.

The spiral is one of the most widespread shapes and energetic movements in nature. Spirals can be found in the design of galaxies, the unfurling of embryos, the cochlea of the ear and in the tiny curling tendrils of some plants. It is no wonder that it is such a powerful symbol all over the world for regeneration, transformation and birth.

The spiral is symbolic of the Great Mother. As it ascends upward it transforms matter into spirit and as it descends downward spirit is materialized into matter. The Latin word for mother is mater and gave rise to the word matter. The spiral represents the Great Mother's generative powers to bring life into being through transformation.
