FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 2, 2009 - National Latino Alliance for the Elimination of Domestic Violence (Alianza) would like to announce it has been awarded a grant for $516,204 from the Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women in Washington, D.C. The grant will be used to provide training and technical assistance for state DV coalitions and other agencies serving victims of domestic violence. In its 10-year history, Alianza has specialized in unique programming geared toward bilingual intervention and prevention, community outreach across social sectors, and specialized prevention workshops for Latino men and boys.
Alianza would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and to Senator Jeff Bingaman, Congressman Ben Ray Lujan, Congressman Martin Heinrich, and New Mexico Secretary of State Mary Herrera for their help in securing funding for this critical programming. According to Executive Director Agnes Maldonado, "A lot of hard work went into securing this funding, the outcome of which will positively impact Hispanic communities nationwide. Quite simply, we believe Alianza has developed outreach and prevention methods overlooked by other agencies to the detriment of their Hispanic clienteles."
Alianza’s programs, geared to the unique needs of Latino families and communities, are national in scope. Its offices are in Albuquerque, NM.
