Director of Policy and Research

The National Latino Alliance for the Elimination of Domestic Violence
(Alianza) is part of a national effort to address the domestic violence
needs and concerns of underserved populations. It represents a growing
network of Latina and Latino advocates, community activists, practitioners,
researchers, and survivors of domestic violence dedicated to creating
culturally competent strategies and programs to help eliminate domestic
violence in Latino communities.
The Director of Policy and Research will report directly to the Executive
Director and will work in concert with Alianza’s Director of Training
& Technical Assistance/Community Education & Development. He/she
will be based in Alianza’s New York City office.
General Responsibilities:

Work with the Executive Director to develop projects, set goals
and objectives, establish timelines, and oversee project budgets as
they relate to contract and grant obligations
-
Develop contracts with Policy and Research contractors and consultants
in consultation with the Executive Director
-
Provide oversight for contractual services and operations entered
into by Alianza with Georgia State University/Research Center (El
Centro), serve as the liaison between El Centro, other contractors
and Alianza’s Executive Director
-
Help recruit and provide oversight for policy interns
-
Prepare and submit monthly project reports to the Executive Director
and assist with th drafting of reports to funders
-
Work with El Centro and Alianza’s Research Subcommittee to
plan and host research forums
-
Work with El Centro and the Research Subcommittee to develop and
disseminate subsequent research forum publications
-
Monitor relevant laws and public policies affecting Latino and domestic
violence communities
Write legislative alerts and policy updates for Alianza’s website,
newsletter and policy listserv

Develop and/or oversee the development of position papers on topics
of interest and concern to Alianza and Latino communities
-
Coordinate the efforts of the Policy Subcommittee
-
Assist with the development and implementation of a National Latino
DV Agenda and the implementation of selected goals from Alianza’s
Policy Summit Report

Conduct mid-year and end-of-year evaluations of El Centro and other
research contractors
-
Participate in meetings with national advocacy and domestic violence
organizations, and with policy makers, at the request of the Executive
Director

Promote the voice of Latino/a communities in the policy arena, including
involvement in policy making groups, state DV coalitions, and other
such entities
-
Represent Alianza at policy and research forums and on boards and
advisory committees of national domestic violence organizations at
the request of the Executive Director
-
Enhance Alianza’s website and resource library with culturally
and linguistically appropriate domestic violence policy and research
information/materials; work in conjunction with El Centro and Alianza’s
website manager to accomplish this objective

Other related projects as requested by the Executive Director
Experience and Skills Required:
-
Excellent writing, interpersonal, and communication skills
-
Excellent analytical, planning, and problem solving skills
-
Prior experience and proven ability to supervise and monitor staff
and contractors and ensure compliance with contracts in a timely manner
-
Ability to work as part of a team, with both men and women, and with
people of various ages
-
Ability to handle various projects simultaneously, to use good judgment
in setting priorities, and to meet project goals and objectives in
a timely manner
-
A good understanding of the experiences of Latino groups in the United
States and a strong commitment to improving the quality of life of
Latino communities
-
Prior experience working in the area of domestic violence
-
Prior experience working on policy issues and ability to interpret
laws and policies
-
Fully bilingual in English and Spanish
-
Excellent computer skills and knowledge of applications and software
programs including Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel
Compensation
Full-time position with a competitive salary, commensurate with experience.
