Training Projects

Alianza is currently offering five trainings. See below for a description of two of the trainings or click on the titles for additional information: Working with Men and Boys to Eradicate Domestic Violence, Train-the Trainer Financial Independence for Survivors of Domestic Violence Workshops, On the Road to Social Transformation: Culture Proficiency Training, Support and Empowerment Group Facilitator Training and the Advocates' Toolbox.

There is no training fee for the first 3 trainings listed. They are made possible through two OVW Training and Technical Assistance Grants. Grantees may use OVW funds to cover allowable travel and lodging expenses. As part of its training and technical assistance services, Alianza organizes national conferences and other training forums that help service providers and advocates who work with Latinas/os enhance their knowledge and skills; provides technical assistance; develops and distributes culturally and linguistically competent resource materials, and makes referrals to other agencies and services when necessary. Our services are offered throughout the U.S. and extend to the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands.

The other 2 trainings: Support and Empowerment Group Facilitator Training and The Advocate's Tool Box are available on a sliding scale fee basis.

A Train the Trainer Workshop for OVW Grantees
and other DV Service Providers

This two-day training and follow-up technical assistance will provide OVW grantee organizations and other domestic violence service providers that serve Latina survivors with the knowledge and resources needed to assist survivors to attain economic independence. National 1.5 day, hands-on training that will help OVW grantees to design programs that incorporate effective interventions and programming for working with Latino men and boys.

Workshop Learning Objectives:

Participants in this workshop will:

  • Gain an understanding of issues that Latino men and boys face, the baggage they carry, the gifts they offer
  • Gain an understanding of the pain and trauma of violence, substance abuse, abandonment, immigration issues
  • Learn how to men can work with and mentor boys
  • Learn how to reach out and engage Latino men and boys as advocates against violence
  • Learn about what practical tools, interventions, materials and other resources are available.
