Our Mission: A National Latinx Alliance to End Domestic Violence
La Alianza Latina Nacional para Erradicar la Violencia Doméstica is a national, Latinx-led movement dedicated to eliminating domestic and gender-based violence in all its forms. Rooted in community, culture, and justice, the Alliance works to transform the conditions that allow violence to persist while uplifting the leadership and resilience of Latinx survivors across the United States.
The mission centers on building safe, dignified, and equitable lives for survivors and their families. By combining advocacy, education, and community-based strategies, La Alianza seeks to dismantle the systemic barriers that Latinx communities face when seeking safety, support, and long-term healing.
Vision: Safety, Dignity, and Justice for All Latinx Survivors
The vision of La Alianza Latina Nacional para Erradicar la Violencia Doméstica is a world where every Latinx person can live free from fear, coercion, and abuse. This vision goes beyond individual relationships, focusing on collective well-being and structural transformation. In this future, survivors have access to culturally responsive services, language justice, economic opportunities, and community networks that honor their experiences and identities.
La Alianza imagines communities where gender equity is the norm, where children grow up witnessing respect and mutual care, and where systems—legal, economic, and social—respond to violence with compassion, accountability, and meaningful solutions.
Core Values Guiding the Alliance
Every initiative and partnership of La Alianza Latina Nacional para Erradicar la Violencia Doméstica is grounded in a set of core values that reflect Latinx histories, cultures, and lived realities.
Cultural and Linguistic Relevance
The Alliance recognizes that Latinx communities are diverse in language, heritage, and migration stories. Effective responses to domestic violence must reflect that diversity. La Alianza promotes services that respect cultural traditions while challenging harmful norms, ensuring that survivors can access information, advocacy, and healing in the languages and formats that are most meaningful to them.
Survivor-Led and Community-Centered
Survivors are at the heart of La Alianza’s work. The Alliance believes that those most impacted by violence must shape the policies, practices, and programs created to address it. Survivors’ voices, leadership, and wisdom guide advocacy priorities, community strategies, and the development of training and resources.
Equity and Intersectional Justice
La Alianza understands that domestic violence does not occur in isolation. It is intertwined with racism, xenophobia, economic inequality, homophobia, transphobia, and anti-immigrant policies. The Alliance is committed to intersectional justice, acknowledging that Latinx survivors may experience multiple forms of oppression at once and require responses that account for overlapping identities and realities.
Collective Power and Collaboration
The movement to end domestic violence is stronger when organizations, advocates, and community members work together. La Alianza builds collective power by fostering collaboration among local programs, national coalitions, service providers, organizers, and survivors themselves. Through shared strategies and mutual support, the Alliance amplifies the impact of Latinx leadership across the country.
Key Areas of Work
La Alianza Latina Nacional para Erradicar la Violencia Doméstica engages in a range of interconnected efforts designed to prevent violence, strengthen community responses, and secure lasting policy change.
Advocacy and Policy Change
The Alliance works to ensure that laws and policies reflect the realities of Latinx survivors. This includes advocating for protections for immigrant survivors, promoting language access standards, and supporting legislation that expands housing, economic security, and safety options. By engaging with policymakers and partner organizations, La Alianza elevates Latinx perspectives in national and state-level discussions about domestic and sexual violence.
Training, Education, and Capacity Building
La Alianza provides training and educational resources for advocates, service providers, community leaders, and allied organizations. These offerings deepen understanding of how culture, migration, language, and systemic inequities shape survivors’ experiences. Through workshops, webinars, and tailored technical assistance, the Alliance supports community-based programs in developing effective, culturally grounded responses to violence.
Community Engagement and Prevention
Ending domestic violence requires long-term, community-driven transformation. La Alianza invests in prevention strategies that center youth, families, and community leaders. This includes promoting healthy relationships, engaging men and boys as allies, challenging harmful gender norms, and uplifting traditions of mutual care and solidarity that exist within Latinx cultures.
Research, Knowledge Sharing, and Storytelling
Data, stories, and community knowledge are vital tools for change. La Alianza supports the development and dissemination of research that reflects the nuanced experiences of Latinx survivors. The Alliance also honors storytelling as a powerful form of resistance and healing, creating spaces in which survivors and advocates can share their truths, counter stereotypes, and expand public understanding of domestic and gender-based violence.
Centering Latinx Survivors in All Their Diversity
Latinx communities are not monolithic. La Alianza Latina Nacional para Erradicar la Violencia Doméstica intentionally centers the experiences of those within the community who have been historically marginalized, including Black Latinx people, Indigenous Latinx peoples, LGBTQIA+ survivors, youth, elders, people with disabilities, and undocumented immigrants.
By acknowledging the diversity of language, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ability, and immigration status, the Alliance seeks to ensure that every survivor can access support without fear of discrimination, exclusion, or retaliation. This approach recognizes that liberation for some is not enough; safety and justice must be available to all.
Immigrant and Refugee Rights as a Safety Issue
For many Latinx survivors, immigration status is directly tied to safety. Abusive partners may use threats of deportation, family separation, or economic control to maintain power. La Alianza advocates for policies and practices that protect immigrant and refugee survivors, such as access to language services, safe reporting options, and protections from immigration-related retaliation.
The Alliance also works alongside legal advocates, community organizers, and service providers to help ensure that systems understand the unique barriers faced by immigrant survivors, including fear of law enforcement, lack of documentation, and limited access to formal resources.
Promoting Healing, Resilience, and Collective Care
La Alianza Latina Nacional para Erradicar la Violencia Doméstica emphasizes that healing is not only an individual journey but also a collective responsibility. The Alliance lifts up practices that draw from Latinx cultural traditions, spiritualities, and community wisdom. These practices can include peer support circles, arts and cultural events, intergenerational dialogues, and community celebrations that affirm identity and resilience.
By valuing collective care, La Alianza supports survivors, advocates, and communities in building sustainable movements that resist burnout and maintain long-term commitments to justice and transformation.
Gender Equity and Transforming Harmful Norms
Domestic violence is often rooted in rigid gender roles and expectations that limit people’s autonomy and power. La Alianza works to challenge norms that normalize control, silence, and abuse within intimate and family relationships. This includes promoting conversations about consent, mutual respect, shared responsibility, and emotional well-being.
Through education campaigns, dialogues with faith and community leaders, and youth programs, the Alliance seeks to create spaces where new narratives of masculinity, femininity, and family can emerge—narratives that honor equality, care, and nonviolence.
Building National and Local Partnerships
La Alianza Latina Nacional para Erradicar la Violencia Doméstica serves as a bridge between national movements and local, community-based organizations. By connecting grass-roots programs with broader coalitions and resources, the Alliance helps to ensure that Latinx voices shape strategies at every level—from local responses to federal policy.
These partnerships strengthen the domestic violence field as a whole, supporting shared learning, innovation, and coordinated responses that better meet the needs of survivors and their families.
Looking Ahead: A Future Free from Domestic Violence
La Alianza Latina Nacional para Erradicar la Violencia Doméstica is committed to long-term, systemic change. The path forward includes expanding access to culturally responsive services, strengthening prevention efforts, securing policy reforms, and investing in the leadership of Latinx survivors and communities.
By holding a clear vision of safety, dignity, and justice—and by grounding that vision in Latinx cultures, histories, and resilience—the Alliance continues to play a vital role in the broader movement to end domestic and gender-based violence nationwide.
